How do I keep my mint from taking over my vegetable/herb garden?
Q. I planted some spearmint and chocolate mint starters last year. I later found out they take over whatever space is available. I want to control them while planting other vegetables or herbs around them?
Asked by FarmerK - Sun Mar 11 12:32:43 2007 - - 7 Answers - Comments

A. You will have to take most of it out and only keep it in the area you want it to grow in. After you have removed most of it, dig a large hole and put a five gallon plastic bucket all the way down in the hole, with only the first two inches showing over the top. Punch holes in the very bottom for drainage. You have to leave the lip up a couple of inches though, since they put out roots from their stems. this will contain the plant roots to a specific area. You can put mulch or bark around the top of the lid, to keep it looking nice. This technique works very well with Bamboo too. It is actually required by law in some parts of California, to stop the rampant growth of non native species of Bamboo. Good luck!

Has anyone tried the new mint mocha frappachino from Starbucks?
Q. I tried one the other day, they are good they taste like mint chocolate ice-cream, but I'd rather just stick to my caramel one. That cinnamon dulce sounds good I may try it. I've only had the caramel frappachino out of the bottle, the one they make at the Starbucks store is best, and the mint mocha one has chocolate whip cream on it.

A. Yes and it was good but I prefer to stick with my hot coffee - a Venti, triple shot, extra hot Cinnamon Dulce latte with whipped cream and sprinkles. SAC

What colors to use with light/mint green carpet?
Q. My bedroom has a light/mint green carpet and my furniture is a dark maple. I don't have the money to replace the carpet so what color should I use to decorate? I need to paint the walls, buy curtains, bedding, etc... Thanks in advance for the help!
Asked by just me - Wed Jun 25 21:24:50 2008 - - 4 Answers - Comments

A. Pick out the bedding and then decide on what to paint the walls. Brown is a great color with green so the furniture is okay. You could also add an area rug to cut up the green if you feel it's too much. Here's a link. Good luck!

Q. Where is the Mint mark for a Indian head penny located?
Asked by nancyzuern - Sun May 25 00:02:40 2008 - - 1 Answers - Comments

A. There was no mint mark until Nov. 1908 as all were minted at the Philadelphia Mint (thus no mint mark). In Nov. 1908 and in 1909, some were minted at the San Francisco Mint which had an "S" underneath the bow on the reverse side of the coin. The value of the San Francisco Mint made coins are higher than those made at the Philadelphia Mint.

A. Rosemary would overpower the fruit in the salad; it's a very strong herb. I would either use sweet basil or maybe a little lemon thyme or even some lemongrass.

How do you break a piece from a mint plant in a way to let the stem keep growing?
Q. I want to make fresh mint tea, but don't want to kill off all of my mint plants!
Asked by Abigail - Thu May 27 23:01:24 2010 - - 2 Answers - Comments

A. pinch it off just above a set of leaves. It actually will encourage the plant to branch out. Mint is very hardy and not easily killed. On a side note, I just discovered my favorite variety of mint last year and it is happily growing in my garden now. It's called "after eight" chocolate mint. It has a very distinct chocolaty mint smell and makes great tasting tea.

How can I obtain the state quarters made in the Denver mint?
Q. I am collecting the state quarters in a large folder. It requires one from the Denver mint and one from the Philadelphia mint for each state quarter. Living in the east, it is very hard to find the quarters made in Denver. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions of how I can get them. I don't care if they are circulated. Thank you in advance for answering.

A. You need to find someone out there, that can look in their change for you. I live in New Hampshire and have found quite a few Denver mint coins in change. When people from the west come to visit in the summer, or ski during the winter they show up. Maybe a friend of a friend lives in the western part of the state. The only other way will cost you, for that is a dealer. Some one out west may see your question and offer to help

what is the best color match to a mint green painted room?
Q. i got a house that has a mint green paint inside-- from the living room all the way to the 3 bedrooms. what is the best way to make this look good? I dont want to repaint , if possible. pls.
Asked by joeboy - Mon Jun 9 04:05:13 2008 - - 6 Answers - Comments

A. I would repaint, unless I liked it. Then go with the flow. Go to a place that has borders, and match up something then you can have a theme running through, or and, take another color and sponge or rag on the walls. I did this on 2 of mine. I uses white but you could do another color totally, take a cloth rag of sponge and dip in paint and squeeze out excess, and roll or sponge around wall, or you could paint part of the wall, use tape and tape off an up and down around the room, or just straight and paint the upper or lower a diff color.

How can I prevent my mint from sprawling and get it to grow as more of a bush?
Q. I planted my mint plant in a window planter along with 2 other plants. These other two were outgrowing the planter, so I transplanted each plant to its own individual container. The mint plant had already started to sprawl. Is it okay to cut it down to get it to grow differently?
Asked by Tori - Fri Jun 11 13:22:55 2010 - - 2 Answers - Comments

A. By regularly pruning the plant back by about 2/3, you will definitely achieve a much bushier plant than before. Whether it will grow into a proper upright bush...well, that's a different story. Some mint varieties prefer to 'crawl' on the ground (these would be very difficult to train into a bushy plant...eg. Chocolate Mint), others like to reach towards the sky (eg. Apple Mint), while again another group prefers the bushy format (eg. Moroccan Mint). If you know which variety you have, you should be able to choose the best course of action. Good luck! :)

A. Hi mms, You've stumbled onto one of the most valuable secrets in the critter control business, but you didn't hear quite right. In order to get skunks, opossums and raccoons to move out from under garden sheds and the like, Oil of Peppermint can be used on cotton balls etc. and put as far into the area as possible. please take note: You cannot substitute the regular peppermint extract from the grocery store. It HAS to be the more expensive (about $15.00 US) Oil of Peppermint from a health food place, or you're just wasting your time and hard earned money. Good Luck, -Jim-

Q. Apparently there was a recent mint made like ice breakers or something that makes your mouth like unbelievably cold. Does anyone know which mint this is and exactly what it's called?

Ice Breakers Pacs product contains nickel-sized dissolvable pouches with a mint flavored powdered sweetener inside, they are delicious, only thing is that people say that they look like street drugs and Hershey's is now stopping production on them. They are awesome!!! Your breath stay's fresh for a really long time and they are extremely cool!

Where to get linux mint and how to install it on Acer laptop?
Q. I have an Acer laptop installed with licensed version of windows 7. I just want to try linux mint on that laptop. If I didn't like linux mint after I installed it, can I go back to windows 7? Does anyone have the ideas? Thanks in advance.
Asked by sharpshootermtz - Sat Feb 5 04:17:56 2011 - - 6 Answers - Comments

A. To download it, simply go to: You may also refer to some local software distributors for copy of the latest Mint distro on a CD or DVD; And some of the distributors would download the OS and burn it on a CD/DVD for you for a charge. Acer wouldn't be different from other laptops in terms of compatibility, as linux is compatible with most common hardware - excluding your internal win-modem Most Linux distros allow a kind of evaluation before installation. They would let you see if Linux recognizes your machine's hardware, and decide whether you like the looks and the provided apps. So try this option first before opting for installation. And if you ever consider keeping Linux and Win 7 together on your laptop, Linux Mint kindly allows this… [cont.]
