How does the crash cart at a hospital work? Is there a special team who handles it?
Q. When people code and a crash cart is called, are there already nurses/doctors assigned to that duty to respond? Or is it just whomever is around and able?
Asked by Unit 3 - Wed Feb 11 18:34:12 2009 - Health Care - 3 Answers - Comments

A. I think it's different in each hospital. A long time ago, there used to be "Code Teams" which consisted of a select group of on-duty people who drop what they're doing and respond to a code no matter where in the hospital it occurs. Nowadays, it's the nurses who are on that floor or in the unit where the code occurs that handle the crash cart. Ideally, it would be the nurse caring for the patient who calls the code and grabs the cart, and other available nurses (as well as an ER doctor and Respiratory Therapist) would all respond as well. So would the House Supervisor. The cart itself consists of emergency drugs and equipment that aren't normally kept out in the open, in easy reach for times of emergency. It also has the… [cont.]

A. The worst accident was in Tenerife in the Canary Islands. What I saw on TV was that there was a bomb that went off at the main airport so all traffic was diverted to the smaller airport. There were 2 747s, one flown by KLM and 1 flown by Pan Am. The pilot for the KLM flight was maxing out on his flight hours so he was in a hurry to get going. The KLM flight left first with the Pan Am flight trailing. The thing with the airport runway is that the taxiway is also the runway. So once you taxi to the end of the runway, you turn around and then take-off. The KLM flight taxied to the end of the runway and was about to take-off because the captain started the engines and was about to start the take-off roll. However the Pan Am flight was still on… [cont.]

Q. After all, America was built buy the free market, there was no urban planning and darn little public transit. Now we know autos are a thing of the past, so is the current urban sprawl the reason behind the crash?

Corporations during the stock market crash of 1929 and later depression?
Q. Question for history class: Many corporations survived the stock market crash of 1929 but failed during the ensuing depression. Explain how this could happen. I realize how they failed during the depression, but not exactly how they survived the stock market crash. Thanks for any help!
Asked by B - Mon May 16 15:51:55 2011 - Other - Business & Finance - 2 Answers - Comments

A. The biggest reason companies didn t fail when the market crashed is that stock price has nothing to do with company success. So just because a stock price falls by 70% does not mean that sales fell by 70%. During every market downturn some companies have falling stock prices in the face of rising sales. The depression is particularly acute because the lofty stock prices seen prior to the crash were due to speculation and low margin requirements, not due to economic performance.

How to avoid the crash associated with ADD medications?

A. If you talking about it crashing like the drug is wearing off (I haven't seen many of the vyvanse stopping and starting working like xr meds can well and some others): vyvanse loses effectiveness with acids in foods and drinks so you can lessen the acids you are taking in like cutting back on sodas(carbonic acid) and your orangy citric acids among others... you can add an additional medication in the afternoon to fight whatever your 'symptoms' are when the vyvanse wears off you can mess around with the dosage or other meds those are the only suggestions i can think of, if it bothers you that much you can stop taking it, but whatever hope you find what you need...

When there is a plane crash, who is responsible for the deaths?
Q. I knows a little morbid, but I'm just wondering. When there is a plane accident and hundreds of people perish, are the airlines responsible to pay for something? Funeral expenses, loss wages for families, do the families receive free counseling? Because if someone is to harm someone else or take their life they face jail time and penalties. I know plane accidents are completely different. But as I was reading about the plane crash in Africa today, I couldn't help but wonder what happens to the families? Are the airlines at all responsible for anything?
Asked by Jake - Sat May 5 16:24:28 2007 - Aircraft - 10 Answers - Comments

A. have you heard of a thing called "insurance"? the airlines all carry big policies, since they are in a high risk category. When Pan Am lost the flight over Lockerbie, Scotland, the insurance companies were reluctant to pay, since the "accident" was in reality not an accident at all, but was the result of a bomb. However, after much finagling, wheedling, and cajoling they were forced to pay off. The families are ultimately responsible for the burial, counseling and other expenses, but they usually file lawsuits and receive some compensation from the insurance carriers. It is just like any other accident; insurance companies pay the costs. The same applies to boating accidents and sinkings, train crashes, bus accidents… [cont.]

A. Well, count all the moving parts on an airplane, if an important part fails then you can have a crash. Here's a fine scenario! I saw it on a documentary once (it happened before). A jumbo jet had a jet attached to the rudder of the aircraft and it was very poorly maintained. So a crack developed in one of the parts of the turbine in it. So the aircraft started up, flew through the air and the stress became too great for the cracked part so it exploded and sent shrapnel through the aircraft's hull. Here's where it gets really bad. One of the shards cuts open a hydraulic fluid line, so the aircraft quickly ran out of hydraulic fluid. If a plane runs out of hydraulic fluid it can no longer control it's steering, ascending or descending by any… [cont.]

A. Cause an infinite loop and a memory overflow. Psuedo code: $i = 0; while($i < 10) { $j .= "Big long string"; } $i never increases above 0 so it just keeps on looping, and the .= means that the string is appended. Eventually this will absorb all memory that is allocated to flash. Crash time :)

A. I don't mean this insultingly, but I wish you had picked a different film. That movie had so many stereotypes, weak tongue-in-cheek twists, and little happening that people are amazed it won best picture. To write a paper about that film is a discredit to your ability and I hope for your sake that it was required for the assignment and you never have to deal with the film again. If I can offer anything, I will offer that NOTHING was consistent with any of the ethnic groups, because most blacks don't steal cars, most whites don't have one crime committed against them and freak out every minute, and most cops are not racist clowns who can't keep their composure. The film as an insult to gender, race, and intelligence. Once again, though, I… [cont.]

Why does the stock market usually crash in October?
Q. 5 of the last 9 crashes, including the biggest decline in the current crisis, the 1929 crash and the 1987 crash all happened in October. Most of the rest happened in September. What is it about this time of year? People must have studied this pattern but I've never heard an explanation of it and trader friends don't seem concerned. With the state of things at the moment, especially the recent rally, shouldn't we be a bit nervous about what might happen in the next 8 weeks?

A. Here's what I think - the reason why there are so many sell offs during the late summer and early autumn is because most of the portfolio managers revaluate their fund's performance. A lot of the securities that are held have higher price-earnings ratios than in the beginning of the year. Depending on which investment strategy the fund manager is employing, some of these stocks may be trading over their alpha and the PM (portfolio manager) may elect to sell. They may be overweight in that particular security, sector..whatever...and decide there are other opportunities in the market today. It's just the way the market moves. Most companies do well in the fall and winter months while others struggle during the spring and summer. Hope I… [cont.]

A. Here is the big question: When do you hit small and bigger crashes? You can hit the bigger crashes when you are really into the groove or when the song is building, or when you just want that big crash sound, you can use the smaller ones for more fast accents. 16" and up are more sensitive to touch, you can ride on them, they are easier to control, they have more sounds in them and they have a longer decay. Small crashes tend to be a bit one-sided and their sound is easily overrun in a loud situation. A 14" crash might be too big to be a splash and too small to be a crash. f you love to experiment, mix and match your cymbals and crash cymbals, you might end up with many cymbals. Cymbals, especially handmade ones, each present a… [cont.]

A. Without seeing what happens when you try different things it's going to be hard to be precise. If your computer is a desktop pc then you can try putting another harddrive with vista installed on it into your computer and booting from that partition. If you can do that and vista recognizes the breaking Harddrive, copy everything off that harddrive onto the new one. Otherwise you just need to buy an external, plug it in and copy all of the files you want to keep off. If you have a spare internal HDD that you can use that would work as well. If windows doesn't let you use usb devices, won't recognize the new harddrive you put in (or you don't have one) then you could try networking your pc to someone else's and then transferring files over… [cont.]

A. A prayer book in one pocket and your insurance card in the other? All joking aside, Scott H said it right and Janice made some very good points. Never let yourself get hemmed into a spot where you have no escape. You want to be able to apply throttle, cut throttle or swerve to get yourself away from a bad situation. I know this isn't always possible, but the "no escape" situations are really quite rare unless you're an idiot that's looking for trouble. Incidentally, NEVER prepare for a crash because most likely you'll make it come true. Instead, prepare yourself for a situation where you have to act to avoid a crash.
