Q. Which element is radioactive and has one less neutron than Actinium?

A. Because there is the same number of protons and no radioactive decay, it will still be Actinium, Ac, but the molar mass will be ~226 instead of 227

How are technical and scientific terms conveyed in ASL?
Q. Are there specific signs for terms like "paleoclimatology", "actinium", "perissodactyla", or are such words usually expressed as compounds, or in some other way? I don't know very much about ASL, so I'm curious as to how such words are expressed.

A. A decay series is all about radioactive isotopes of elements losing radiation particles (mainly alpha and beta particles) and through this becoming another radioactive element etc etc. This decay series continues till a none radioactive element is formed after loss of a radioactive particle. If I am not mistaken then non radioactive element usually ends up being one of the lead isotopes. So what he needs to find out is which radioactive particle radium, radon, actimium and thorium (Th) emit and what element it becomes after that decay. for radon see for the others see (you'll need to look at it and not blindly copy) By the way alpha particles are two protons ands two electrons, beta particles are where a neutron is converted into… [cont.]

Q. Does Actinium react in water? how about air?

A. It reacts with water to form an insoluble hydroxide and with oxygen to form the sesquioxide (A sesquioxide is an oxide containing three atoms of oxygen with two atoms (or radicals) of another element). Actinium metal tarnishes slowly in air and burns readily to form actinium (III) oxide, Ac2O3. 4Ac + 3O2 2Ac2O3 hope this helps:-)

Determining stability of the nuclei?

Asked by michelle vina - Fri Nov 27 06:24:46 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Use google to search for the isotope followed by halflife e.g. search google for 'nickle-58' 'halflife'. This will give you your answers. Nickel-58 has a half life of 0.11seconds. The quicker the isotope decays the less stable it is, some isotopes will have very short half lives like nickle-58 (0.11s) meaning it is unstable, some will have very long half lives like plutonium-239 (24,110 Years). half life is the time it takes an isotoope to decay to half its value. so if you had 10 atoms of plutonium-239, 24,110 years later you would have 5 atoms of plutonium-239 and 5 atoms of uranium-235 (the product it decays into).
