50 State Quarters Answers
What does a set of all 50 state quarters cost?
Q. Have they minted all 50 yet? Not looking for proof coins, just uncirculated or nearly so. If you put them in a dry clean place, would they be in the same condition in 20 years. (the pennies seem the corrode just sitting in a jar by themselves. Very funny. Would be happy to buy at 12.50 all day long. Years ago I was in a coin shop and the first ones out already had a premium. Don't need a fancy display case. Bet it is very tough to find the first ones in collectable condition, (original 13 colonies If I remember right) in pocket change.

A. Looks like a set of P or D mint marked is going for around $29 a set, either P or D. As for storage a nice album with sliding plastic covers such as Danco will do. Put it is a place that the temp stays about the same and the humidity is low. The program ran through 2008 and an added program but different was the territories quarters of 2009. Now it is the America the Beautiful quarter program 2010-2021. One can actually put a set together from change and can find them in mint state if one takes the time to look through rolls of quarters from the banks. When it comes to coins what happened years ago and today are like night and day. Values of most quarters went down while a few, very few went up a little. At one time in the 1960's a 1950-D… [cont.]

Can you subscribe to the 50 state quarters program with the US Mint?
Q. To get the remaining 5 quarters to be issued in 2008? I have all of them (uncirculated) through 2007 already.
Asked by manwithplan05 - Fri Dec 21 12:10:53 2007 - Hobbies & Crafts - 3 Answers - Comments
A. You should be able to subscribe to the balance of the program through the US mint web site. Just remember you will pay a premium over the face value of the coins. I don't collect them, but if I was, I would just go to a bank about the time the new coins are released and buy a roll. That way you can open the roll, select one or two extra high grade coins and still have the rest of the roll to do with as you please. You now have a couple of high grade coins and it only cost you face value. Have fun with your collection.

Is my 50 state quarter collection worth holding on to?
Q. I have all 50 state quarter, and the territories, and some national parks. But i dont know if i should hold onto it or not, cause I have a lot of places I could spend about 13 dollars on. So is it worth keeping, or should i just spend it?
Asked by DxLugio - Mon May 2 23:20:21 2011 - Hobbies & Crafts - 3 Answers - Comments
A. Actually have just one of each state quarter is not really a set. A set actually is 100, one from each mint that would be a circulation strike set. There are also proof coins with an S mint mark made in copper/nickel clad as well as silver. If one had them all the set it is worth over $700. It would consist of 200 coins. Now to answer your question, it will be many years before just the 50 coin set has any collector value due to the huge amount minted as well as the huge amount saved. maybe when your children are grown up it may have some value. My advice is spend it if you really need to, if not you can always spend it later.

What is the cost to the tax payers to design and tool 50 state quarters?
Q. For all 50 different quarters, each had to be designed and then stamp dies made. How much did that all cost?
Asked by curious G - Mon Apr 17 20:38:47 2006 - Other - Business & Finance - 1 Answers - Comments
A. It's a self-supported program. The cost to taxpayers is nothing. In fact, the U.S. Government will make money on the 50 State Quarters Program. The cost to manufacture a quarter is about 5 cents, providing a profit of approximately 20 cents per coin. Mint profits go to the general fund of the U.S. Treasury to help fund U.S. Government operations, reduce the need for new or higher taxes, and reduce the Federal Government's debt. No tax revenues will be used in either the manufacture or the promotion of the state quarters. All costs are funded from the Mint's earned revenue. Designs were solicited from citizens of each state. The selection committee was volunteer citizens. The cost of the tool and die is considered in the $0.05 cost.

How much would all 50 (State) Quarters be worth, In a collection?
Q.
Asked by Sk8terMov - Mon Apr 2 15:46:32 2007 - Other - Business & Finance - 4 Answers - Comments
A. Each quarter is only worth twenty five cents in most circumstances. Certainly that would be the case if these are the standard coins that you have collected by way of getting change for a dollar. Some would be worth more if they had been minted incorrectly (and yes, there are a few out there). Additionally, there are some collections that you can purchase that have come directly from the mint, still sealed, never touched by human hands, that are worth more.

50 state quarters collectors frame or book?
Q. Does anybody know where i can get the 50 state quarters collectors book or frame? Also do you know which brings more value to your collection, the book or frame? And also some of the coins have a very small D or P on the face to the right of Washingtons head, what is the difference between the ones that have D and ones that have P? Also i'd appreciate if if you guys know why a frame or book would bring more value...Thanks!
Asked by John2431 - Mon Jun 29 17:58:48 2009 - Hobbies & Crafts - 1 Answers - Comments
A. I am not sure what you mean by frame or book, but I assume you mean something like the items listed in the link below. Two of the worst enemies of coins are moisture and finger oils, so anything that keeps those away would be preferable. The P or D on the coins is a mint mark. The P coins were minted in Philadelphia, and the D coins were minted in Denver. The state quarters will probably not have a premium value for several years as there are billions of them in circulation.

A. get coins from the mint sets for each year will be worth alot more then any that you get from just hand to hands , even if you go to the back and get the coins you will still have finger print on them ,, the one from us mint set come sealed and have never been touched by hand and those are the one that e will be worth anything 20 or even 50 years from now . I have been collecting coins for aboout 10 years and only deal with the mint or proof coins from the mint myself ,, now the quarters program is to end next year but i have heard that there might be another 5 coins that will be done for the 2010 mint set that will be offered only in a mint set that will go with the 50 states that will come out .

A. Probably not. There are too many minted and they are too popular as collectibles. A complete set in mint condition should eventually be worth more than face value but not by much.

Is their any long-term value in collecting all 50 state quarters from both "mints"?
Q. I am nearly complete collecting all 50 state quarters with this year and next year still to go but i didn't know if their was any value in collecting all 50 from one mint and all 50 from the other mint (other than the fact I would have $25 in quarters).

A. BD in NM is correct. If you had collected all that was available, that is the P,D, S proof and the silver proofs, with the P & D being in nice mint state you would have a nice investment as well as a nice collection. If you enjoyed collecting them, then you have already received payment. I have found over the years that I have done quite well as to the value of the coins I have collected. I think the reason is, that I collected what I liked and could afford and after that, never looked to see if they went up or not. I just enjoyed the history I had in my hands. I went for the challange of actually completeing sets, then branched out into world coins and medals, as well as ancients. By the was, it is not that easy to put a state quarter… [cont.]

Where can I get a deal on the 50 state quarter book online?
Q. I am currently saving the new quarters and I was wondering where can I get a deal on the 50 state quarter book online. I called hobby stores in my area and i cant find any thing about the quarter book. I do collect coins. How much will they be worth after all the state quarters are not around?

A. Most people do not know that there are a lot of different types of state quarters. There are the circulation strikes from the Philadelphia and Denver mint. Then there are the San Francisco clad proof sets as well as the Silver proof sets. Then in 2005 the mint came out with a new mint sets that have a satin finish. So that is a lot of different types of state quarters. A complete set of all the above up to now is selling for over or around $800. If you are just collecting one from each state it will take many years for them to be valuable since they minted millions of circulation strike state quarters just form one state. Go to www.brooklygallery.com they are a large supplier of coin and stamp supplies and have the best prices.

A. they are actually worth $12.50 since there are 50 but possibly to a collector you might be able to scrounge up a little more although I don't see why a collector wouldn't already have a collection that's relatively easy to acquire.
